This weekend marks the 10th anniversary since the first bone was discovered on the West Mesa leading to the work of a serial killer.

The advocacy group Street Safe New Mexico is holding a service to honor the victims of the West Mesa murders on Saturday.

It will be held at the West Mesa Memorial Park on 118th Street where the remains of 11 women, one of which was pregnant were found in 2009.

Street Safe says it is important to remember them.

“How could that many women go missing and as a community not even really pay attention or know about it until 2009? And so I feel like if we ever forget that, if we ever forgot that we didn’t pay attention, we will let it happen again,” said Christine Barber with Street Safe New Mexico.

There have been no arrests and no suspects named in the case.
