Repeat DWI offender avoids jail time

Crime

A repeat drunk driver will not go to prison for his latest conviction.

Video from back in August 2018 shows what happened when a Good Samaritan found Malcolm Torres passed out behind the wheel on a sidewalk and pulled him out of his car.

Torres later pleaded guilty to DWI, making that his third conviction in the last five years.

Under a plea deal, Judge Maria Dominguez gave Torres a one-year deferred sentence, meaning if he stays out of trouble for the next year and attends a treatment program he’ll avoid jail time. He’ll also have an interlock installed in his car.
