A manager at the Burger King in Durango has been arrested for fraud, at another Burger King in New Mexico.

According to court documents, 47-year-old Maria Sepulveda-Madrid began embezzling money from Burger King locations back in 2015.

As an acting manager at two locations in Farmington and another in Bloomfield, police say Sepulveda-Madrid would write paychecks to employees who did not exist, then cash the checks and pocket the cash.

It’s estimated that she stole more than $250,000 in less than a year.

She’s also accused of helping illegal immigrants obtain fake social security numbers.

Police say Thursday, Sepulveda-Madrid was arrested at the Burger King in Durango where she’s been working under a stolen identity for months.
