Police arrest driver accused of fatal hit-and-run with bicyclist

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - Albuquerque Police have arrested the driver allegedly involved in a deadly hit-and-run with a bicyclist.

According to a criminal complaint, it happened early Monday morning near Yale and Ross.

Police say a red Chevy truck hit Ronald Brinkley who was then taken to the hospital, where he died.

APD received multiple tips about the truck and reviewed surveillance video in the area.

That led them to the driver, 21-year-old Jesse Cordova.

He appeared in court for the first time Saturday where the State filed a motion for pre-trial detention.

"I am signing the order of transfer now," said Judge Christine Rodriguez. "What that means Mr. Cordova, is that you will be held in custody until a court judge can hear that state's motion.

Cordova has minimal criminal history in New Mexico, just a few speeding tickets.

He now faces a felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death.
