HOBBS, N.M. (KRQE) – New Mexico State Police are searching for the second suspect in an officer-involved shooting. NMSP reports that the incident took place near 537 East Navajo Dr. in Hobbs Thursday night.

Officials say a NMSP officer conducted a traffic stop around 8:20 p.m. Thursday on a silver Chrysler sedan. During the encounter, a male passenger of the vehicle fled on foot. The officer ran after him and at some point, the male suspect pulled out a gun and shot at the officer. The officer then shot back at least one round toward the suspect.

The man continued to run from the officer. Officials say police don’t believe the suspect was hit by gunfire.

Authorities say a female suspect, the driver of the vehicle, was not injured. She was held by state police but released. The identity of the male suspect is still unknown.

The officer who fired his gun is on standard administrative leave. No other information has been released.
