A New Mexico mom will not get jail time for her daughter’s extreme truancy.

The District Attorney in Curry County is among those going hard after parents who allow their children to miss too much school.

Tiffanie Romero, 24, was arrested in December after her 6-year-old daughter missed three weeks.

She was sentenced to pay a $373 fine.

Another parent, 39-year-old Nadia Martinez, was charged after 15-year-old son missed 21 days of school last year.

Martinez’s trial starts next month.
