New Mexico man gets prison time for stabbing corrections officer

Crime

A New Mexico man will spend 15 years in prison for stabbing a corrections officer.

In 2016, DeMario Allen was being held at the Lincoln County Detention Center before a court hearing.

Allen and another inmate attacked the guard as he was leaving the cell pod.

When other officers showed up, Allen and the other inmate pulled out shanks that they had made from a squeegee handle.

Allen then stabbed the guard.

He survived, suffering a fractured rib.
