A Dona Ana County man is accused of trying to set his wheelchair-bound mother on fire on her birthday.

The woman told deputies her son, 27-year-old Johnny Jimenez, got mad when she asked him to help cook dinner for her 63rd birthday.

She told deputies he slammed her head into the washing machine, knocking her out of her wheelchair, then poured kerosene over her and tried to light her on fire.

When he was unsuccessful, he took off.

The woman’s daughter came home later to find her mother and called police.
