A New Mexico man is behind bars for the beating of an 11-month-old.

Police in Farmington say Jeremiah Yazziee-Miller was watching his girlfriend’s six kids on Saturday while she went to the store.

While she was gone, he called 911 to report the baby wasn’t breathing.

Police say it turned out Yazziee-Miller had shaken the baby and hit her on the head.

The child is now in the ICU at UNM Hospital, and the other kids ranging up to age 11 have been taken out of the home.

Prosecutors are pushing to keep Yazziee-Miller locked up until his trial. Police say the children’s mother is also under investigation.
