The man accused of going on a murder spree in northern New Mexico is asking to be tried in a different county.

Damian Herrera, 21, is accused of murdering his stepfather, mother and brother, then killing two innocent men he came across near Taos and Abiquiu in June 2017.

Earlier this year, a judge set his trial for January 31, but Herrera’s attorney filed a motion asking the venue be moved out of Taos due to extensive media coverage in the area.

The hearing also discussed the lack of Hererra’s cooperation with his lawyers.
