Man who stole from Old Town businesses in trouble again

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - A man who stole thousands from Old Town businesses has found himself in trouble again.

David Rendon pleaded no contest last year to pocketing more than $30,000 in cash from the Old Town Merchants Association.

At the time of his sentencing, Judge Stan Whitaker chose not to send him to jail so he could pay his victim's restitution. However, it appears he hasn't been doing that.

Court documents show Rendon owes more than $32,000 in fees and has only paid $20 towards the amount.

Friday in court, Rendon's attorneys argued the lack of payment was due to concerns about who was owed the restitution.

Judge Stan Whitaker agreed to look into Rendon's concerns and come up with a new payment plan, but warned Rendon if he ended back up in his courtroom he could be sent to prison.
