An inmate who escaped from the Curry County jail has been sentenced to 13 more years in prison.

Victor Apodaca pleaded guilty to the June escape when police say he, Ricky Sena and Aaron Clark got help from a jail guard to slip out of the jail in Clovis.

Under his plea deal, Apodaca faced up to 19 years in prison, and according to the Eastern New Mexico News, he pleaded through tears for mercy during his sentencing.

Judge Drew Tatum ended up sentencing him to 13 years, but that doesn’t mean Apodaca will be out anytime soon.

Before serving his sentence, he still has to serve 60 years in Texas for assaulting a police officer.

The other two inmates are scheduled for trial in the next couple of months.
