Man accused of torturing disabled woman to stay behind bars

Crime

A judge will keep a man who allegedly tortured a disabled woman for weeks behind bars until trial.

Police say a wheelchair-bound woman with severe disabilities let 32-year-old Phillip Perez stay in her Albuquerque home if he took care of her.

Investigators say Perez abused her. They say he hit her with a hammer, tilted her wheelchair backwards on two wheels and throwing knives at her.

Perez appeared in district court Tuesday where Judge Cindy Leos decided to keep him on a no bond hold until trial.
