The Albuquerque man accused of strangling his fiance, then sexually assaulting her body, plans to use insanity as his defense.

Police say Jeremiah Lopez confessed to the crime, which happened last month at the couple’s Albuquerque home following an argument in which Lopez accused the woman of cheating.

According to court documents, Lopez then tried to kill himself in multiple ways before he called police.

Wednesday, his attorneys filed a notice with the courts saying Lopez will plead not guilty by reason of insanity.

Lopez was an educational assistant at Mark Twain Elementary School at the time of the crime.
