A former priest accused of raping a young girl nearly three decades ago has been released.
The Attorney General’s office says 81-year-old Sabine Griego raped the girl at Queen of Heaven Church in Albuquerque in the early ’90s. After an investigation, Griego was arrested earlier this month for one count of rape.
Monday in court, Judge Charles Brown decided to release Griego on his own recognizance.
“The state has not shown that he is a present danger to anyone. The nature of the allegations are serious and disturbing, but they’re allegations,” Judge Brown said.
Griego is not allowed to have any contact with anyone under the age of 18.
