A judge has denied a request by the woman accused of killing a mother and her teen daughter when she crashed into them.
Police say Elexus Groves and Paul Garcia stole a van last year and crashed into a car, killing Shuana Arredondo and her 14-year-old daughter, Shaylee.
Groves and Garcia were charged with first-degree murder, but Judge Brett Loveless dismissed Groves’ charges last month, saying they didn’t fit the crime.
Friday in court, Groves attorney argued because the charges were dropped, the court should reconsider its order denying bail.
“The court found that there were no conditions that the court could fashion that would reasonably protect the community based on the defendants circumstances. I don’t see that, that’s changed. So the court at this time will deny the motion,” Judge Loveless said.
The state has appealed the judge’s decision to drop the first degree murder charges.
A hearing date has not yet been set.
