A former high school debate coach who raped students has learned his fate.
Former Rio Grande High School coach Luis Chavez pled guilty to six counts of rape last year.
The victim was a 17-year-old male student. He emailed an administrator saying he had been sexually assaulted by Chavez in 2016, over two years.
The plea came after a mistrial on a prior rape charge from 2014 involving another student.
Chavez was sentenced to five years in prison, the maximum amount he was facing. He’ll also have to register as a sex offender.
