Authorities are still searching for a person of interest after a suspect in a Farmington homicide investigation was located Tuesday in Mesa, Arizona.
U.S. Marshals in Mesa were able to locate Pedro Lucero though a ping warrant from Farmington detectives.
While attempting to apprehend Lucero, he was shot and killed.
Authorities in Farmington named 41-year-old Lucero a suspect in a homicide that occurred Wednesday, August 1, and are now seeking 27-year-old Miguel (Mikey) Hernandez, a person of interest, in the investigation.
An arrest warrant was issued Wednesday for Pedro “Peter” Lucero from Albuquerque on several charges including first-degree murder, shooting from a motor vehicle, and possessing a firearm as a felon.
After receiving reports of shots fired at 1100 South Bowen in Farmington, officers were dispatched to the San Juan Regional Medical Center to reports of a woman who had been dropped off at the emergency room with a gunshot wound.
The victim, identified as 24-year-old Francine Delgado, passed away at the hospital as a result of a gunshot to her lower back.
A second victim, 28-year-old Rebecca Jacquez, arrived at the emergency room approximately 45 minutes later with a gunshot wound to her buttock. Her injuries were non-life threatening and she was treated and released from the hospital.
While specific details have not been released, authorities believe Lucero fired several rounds at the rear of an SUV with multiple people inside, including Jacquez and Delgado.
Lucero had a federal probation violation warrant as a result of methamphetamine trafficking charges. He also has a felony warrant from Bernalillo Metro Court resulting from breaking and entering.
