DNA results are expected to play a big role in the trial of three Cannon airmen accused of rape but the two sides seem to disagree about what the evidence will prove.

The Eastern New Mexico News reports one of the defense attorneys is optimistic the results will show his client, 19-year-old Isaiah Edley is not guilty.

Edley, along with the 25-year-old Thomas Newton and 18-year-old Rahman Buchanan are charged with raping a female airman at a house party in January.

Despite the defense’s confidence, the prosecutor told the paper he believes the DNA will prove the state’s case.

The trial is set for October.
