The Santa Fe District Attorney’s Office says it will strengthen the charges against a Santa Fe woman following the death of her 5-year-old stepson.

Melynie Tyalan Curtis, 20, is accused of beating the boy.

Police say he was found with bruises, ligature marks around his neck, and a bloody and possibly fractured nose.

The boy was airlifted to UNM Hospital this weekend. He died Tuesday morning, according to the District Attorney’s office.

The DA’s office says Tyalan will be charged with intentional child abuse resulting in death, which carries a life sentence.
