Copper thieves cost Albuquerque businesses thousands of dollars

Thieves stole copper from an Albuquerque shopping center, forcing local businesses to lose thousands of dollars.

Surveillance video shows a car driving up to a power box at a shopping center near Coors and Montano early Sunday morning. Crooks took off with the copper wiring from inside the box, shutting down power in the center for 36 hours.

The power is back, but the owner of ABQ Guns says he lost $8,000 from potential business.

“Don’t be so selfish. There’s a lot of people, other things that are affected by whatever you do, and it’s just a copper theft, but everything else comes into it as well,” said Arnie Gallegos, owner of ABQ Guns.

If you happen to know who may be behind the theft, contact the Albuquerque Police Department.
