The Albuquerque Police Department says a man used an A-K 47 to carjack someone before leading police on a chase through neighborhoods.

Officers were called to the Smith’s grocery store on Yale and Coal Friday.

According to court documents, a man told police that 21-year-old Donavon Young walked up to him and pressed the gun into his stomach, demanding his truck before stealing it.

Police used the victim’s phone left in the truck to track Young down at a gas station on Rio Bravo and Second Street.

The truck ended up crashing into a dirt mound.

Young appeared in Metro Court this weekend where the state filed a motion to keep him behind bars until trial.

Young is facing charges including armed robbery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
