APD recovers Wisconsin couple’s car, belongings

Crime

A Wisconsin couple who thought they lost everything here in Albuquerque is back on the road traveling to Arizona after police tracked down their stolen car.

Police say Larry and Sherry Gustafson stopped overnight in Albuquerque on their way to their new Arizona home.

Police say Monday morning, Sherry left her purse in the hotel with her keys inside. That’s when authorities believe someone took her purse, found their car and took off.

Police say the thieves sold their phone. The person who bought it saw a notification that said it was stolen.

APD says they returned the phone and were able to help officers track down the car to the Motel 6 on University.

“Everything that we really owned and weren’t shipping through the moving company was in the car all of those things you can’t replace that we are afraid to lose in the moving company,” said Sherry Gustafson.

Not only did police recover their car but also their belongings.

Police say they dusted the car for prints and are still searching for a suspect.
