A gruesome murder at an Albuquerque gas station is back in the spotlight. A cable network is highlighting the crime to help catch the suspected killer after six years on the run. Now, the victim’s family is hoping John Walsh can help reel the killer in.
It was a senseless attack that left one man dead and sent his neighbor on the run.
“It’s heartbreaking, it really is,“ said Ruby Lucero, the victim’s sister, back in 2013. “It’s hard. It’s hard to get through each day.“
The murder of Michael Sanchez has been a mystery for his family, although they say they know the killer is Ricardo Villanueva-Cordova.
Cordova was Michael’s neighbor at the time. He hasn’t been spotted since June 18, 2013, the day of the grisly attack.
“My brother knocks on the door, tells him to put the dog away,“ said Isaac Lucero in 2013. “He tells my brother that he has something for my brother if he comes back over there.“
After the dispute, Villanueva-Cordova is accused of stabbing Sanchez 28 times outside the Valero Gas Station at 98th Street and Central Avenue following that argument over a barking dog.
Now, nearly six years later, the Investigation Discovery show, “In Pursuit with John Walsh,” has picked up the case.
“Most fugitives are focused on one thing: escape,“ Calahan Walsh says in the show’s trailer.
Walsh and his son Callahan have joined forces for the show to bring justice to grieving families.
The Sanchez family hopes the tips will pour in and put Villanueva-Cordova behind bars once and for all.
“You never know who’s going to come forward,“ Isaac Lucero said in 2013. “Somebody might know him.“
The show airs Wednesday, March, 27, at 8 p.m. on Investigation Discovery. Tips can be submitted on the show’s website and to Crime Stoppers.
