Crews respond to brush fire in Albuquerque Foothills

A brush fire in the Albuquerque Foothills came dangerously close to homes near Elena Gallegos picnic area. 

According to the Albuquerque Fire Department, the fire was seven acres in size. The fire also caused minor damage to three homes, threatened 10 structures and caused 21 homes to be evacuated. 

Families were later allowed back in their homes.

The cause of the fire at this time is unknown. 

Firefighters will monitor the area and continue to look for hotspots throughout the night.
