Crews fighting Whitman Fire in Carson National Forest


ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – There’s a new fire burning in the Carson National Forest that has burned 334 acres.

Right now the fire is 40 percent contained.

The Whitman Fire was spotted Wednesday on the Valle Vidal.

Efforts are focused in keeping the fire from spreading to the Vermejo Ranch.

People using the McCrystal Campground may be affected.

This area will get especially busy over the weekend with the opening of the Shuree Ponds on July 1.
