ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Bernalillo County has taken some steps so everything goes smoothly this election.
Early voting starts Saturday, and this primary the county has more machines, more polling workers and some new technology to help the voting experience.
Roman Montoya, deputy county clerk, said, “This presidential election is really exciting. We’re really looking forward to it.”
“We all saw what happened in Maricopa County with long wait lines,” he said. That is something the county does not expect here.
“We give tools to the voters to make it easier, more convenient for them to vote,” Montoya said.
All registered Republicans and Democrats in the primary received letters in the mail featuring a bar code. They are encouraged to bring that to the polling location.
“We have a unique barcode ID that they can present for a faster check-in,” he said. “With a faster transaction time, that means less waiting in line for people,” he said.Voters can also get the information electronically–even straight on your smartphone. It has polling locations, sample ballots, even live waiting times at particular sites.
“When we saw the numbers that were coming in across the country, we did adjust our numbers, and we did prepare accordingly. So we do have more workers out there ready and available in case the people do show up. We’re ready,” he said.
The primary is June 7.
