Two local farmers were honored for their lifelong contributions to agriculture in New Mexico.
For decades, Wagner Farms has specialized in growing green chile, apples, pumpkins and much more.
Sunday, the village of Corrales wanted to recognize its owners, Gus and Arlene Wagner.
Oct. 21 has been known as “Gus Wagner Day” for years, but the village wanted to give his wife credit for the farm’s success too.
They say it’s rewarding to be recognized after years of hardship.
“Farming is not easy. You know there was times when we didn’t have water and we didn’t know what we would do,” Arlene Wagner said. “But we always survived. We kept going. He worked at it very hard.”
You can visit Wagner Farms everyday this fall from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
