ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The penguin exhibit at the zoo is getting closer to reality.
The city plans to demolish the zoo’s “Tropical America” exhibit to make room for the “Penguin Chill.” It will be complete with snow and even a 15-foot diving pool, all while zoo goers can look on from two different stories.
A contractor for the construction has been awarded to HB Construction.
The roughly $12 million project is expected to start this spring. A majority of the funding is coming from the gross receipt tax that voters approved during the 2015 election.
