Construction company found responsible for worker’s death; ordered to pay fine

BAYFIELD, Colo. (KRQE) – A construction company has been ordered to pay a more than $14,000 fine after it was found responsible for the death of one of its workers.

According to the Durango Herald, 23-year-old Brian Shaw of Trinidad was on a lift at Twin Bridges in Bayfield back in September when it went off the dirt road.

While trying to fix it, SEMA Construction Inc. says he didn’t lock himself into the basket. They say Shaw fell about 40 feet, landing on a survey stick.

OSHA fined the company last week for safety violations.
