ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Congressman Tom Udall wants to make it easier for Americans to file their taxes.

Wednesday, Udall and 10 other senators announced plans to file a Tax Filing Simplification Act.

Taxpayers will spend an average of 13 hours preparing their tax returns and will pay an average of $200 for tax preparation services.

That’s 10 percent of the average tax refund. The legislation will direct the IRS to develop a free, online tax preparation and filing service.
