People are getting a first-look at the electric scooters that could soon hit Albuquerque’s streets.
Two companies hoping to do business here, Lime and Bird, showed off their electric scooters on Civic Plaza.
Using an app and a credit card, rides with Lime cost $1 to unlock the scooter, and then 15-cents for every minute.
“It says an awful lot about what companies like this see in Albuquerque. That they think that we’re on the next list of cities that are ready to take on the 21st century shared transportation,” City Councilor Pat Davis said.
If approved by city councilors, the companies will pay a permit fee to operate here, which could generate hundreds of thousands of dollars.
