OTERO COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – Otero County commissioners are discussing the possibility of designating White Sands National Monument as a National Park.
Commissioners recently met with Senator Martin Heinrich’s spokeswoman who says the senator is considering introducing a bill soon.
Changing White Sands from a National Monument to a National Park could increase the amount of visitors it sees as National Parks are often considered more prestigious.
