CNM students get hands-on training at mock mass shooting

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Students on CNM’s campus spent the morning getting some hands-on training.

About 200 students from CNM’s healthcare programs responded to a mock mass shooting. The students were able to treat people and work alongside real professionals. The exercise gives the students a chance to apply what they learn in the classroom to real life situations.

“The classroom and lab part–they learn what they have to learn–but then when they go to their clinicals they work with real patients and a lot of times you can’t do things with real patients that you’ve learned, but we can simulate that,” said Richard Gentile, CNM Simulation Center.

The exercise included a medical helicopter and ambulances making trips to and from medical labs, which served as emergency rooms.
