Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) is training the next generation of electrical linemen.
When the power goes out, it’s linemen who turn your lights back on. It’s a dangerous, but necessary job. That’s why CNM and professional linemen are working together on a new pre-apprenticeship program.
“For CNM, it allows us to bring in a type of education and program that we’ve never had before in a really high-skills, high paying job,” Kyle Lee, CNM Ingenuity Executive Director, said.
Students at the school’s Rio Rancho campus are being trained by seasoned professionals in a special 15-week program.
Most existing linemen are just five years from retirement. CNM says the new program aims to help fill the void.
