RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) – The Environment Department says they will take legal action if a smelly pond in Rio Rancho isn’t cleaned up.
Early last month, KRQE News 13 told you about the pond in the old Club Rio Rancho Golf Course. Under previous ownership, the valve that replenished the pond broke and as temperatures rose so did the smell.
The new owners said it would be fixed within a week, but it wasn’t. Now the Environment Department says the owners will be fined unless they comply with the state permit, which requires them to filter the water and keep levels up.
The department says ownership has switched several times in the last five years, making it difficult to get control of the situation.
