Clovis firefighter accused of stealing from crash scene

CLOVIS, N.M. (KRQE) – A Clovis firefighter is accused of stealing from victims of a crash.

Curry County deputies say 32-year-old Lieutenant Christopher Elam was one of the first responders to a crash on May 1st on US 60 just west of Melrose. Deputies say while crews were working to extricate the victims, Elam took a bottle of alcohol, a bottle of a non-alcoholic beverage, and a bottle of seasoning from one of the cars.

Elam is charged with misdemeanor larceny.

Elam is still a city employee pending the outcome of the investigation.
