Civic Plaza possible stage name change to honor Al Hurricane

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Godfather of New Mexico music, Al Hurricane is being honored.

On May 1, city councilors will honor the musician even considering renaming the stage on Civic Plaza after him.

Councilors Ken Sanchez, Klarissa Pena, and Isaac Benton said they’d like to honor him and his six-decade music career by naming the area, the “Al Hurricane Senior Pavilion at Civic Plaza.”

Six days after the event, the city plans to celebrate Hurricane’s legacy with a special concert.
