City of Albuquerque, UNM, UNMH join to combat homelessness

News

The city of Albuquerque wants to work with other institutions including UNM to tackle homelessness. The city, the University of New Mexico and UNM Hospital have partnered to find more permanent solutions.

One of their ideas is to create a single location where homeless people can go for resources 24/7.

“What services do they need? Are there behavioral health concerns? Are there housing vouchers that are needed? We’re putting more investment in the future so we’ll have fewer homeless people on the street,” said Carol Pierce with the city of Albuquerque.

Mayor Tim Keller says he’ll work with city council on securing funding for that homeless location.
