ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – Chaves County officials are talking about raising the gross receipt tax beginning next year to shore up budget problems.
In a proposed ordinance, county officials want a 25 percent increase. This means people buying something in the county will pay 25-cents more every $100.
Officials say it will bring in an additional $800,000.
The county commissioner will hold a public hearing and vote during its June 15 meeting.
