Case stalled against New Mexico counselor accused of raping teen

News

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The case against a state mental health counselor accused of raping a teen has stalled because of issues over her competency.

Julie Barham is accused of giving drugs to and having sex with a 17-year-old boy she was counseling at the CYFD juvenile lockup, Lincoln Pines, near Ruidoso.

A judge agreed in August 2016 that Barham was mentally incompetent to stand trial.

A hearing last week in the case resulted in no clear indication of when the case might progress.

Barham was only with CYFD about a year before her arrest.

Lincoln Pines closed shortly after Barham’s arrest.
