CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – Carlsbad police have arrested the man responsible for circulating more than $1,700 of fake bills in the city.

Authorities say 31-year-old James Petterson used a home laptop, scanner and printer to make copies of 50 and $100 bills.

Patterson allegedly printed the new images onto one dollar bills that he wiped clean. That’s why there were able to pass certain tests.

Carlsbad police are now looking for two other people he may have been working with.

They warn businesses that fake bills are still being reported around Eddy County.
