CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – People visiting Carlsbad Caverns are bringing in big bucks for the surrounding communities. A report commissioned by the National Park Service found that visitors spent more the $28 million last year.
The report included all towns and cities within 60 miles of the park. It estimates that 35 percent of the money was spent on lodging, 19 percent at restaurants and 14 percent on gas.
The report also found that the spending supported more than 400 jobs in the area.
