RUIDOSO, N.M. (KRQE) – An online fundraising campaign raising funds to free wild horses is gaining ground.

This, after about a dozen wild horses were hauled away in Alto, near Ruidoso.

According to the Ruidoso News, a pair of upset property owners claimed the herd was a nuisance and rounded up about a dozen of them for the state to pick up. The plan is to auction the horses off.

A rally was held Sunday against the move. The GoFundMe page set up to help pay for legal costs to release the horses has raised just over $18,000 in two days.
