Border Patrol catches police impostor

News

ALAMOGORDO, N.M. (KRQE) – Border Patrol agents didn’t find drugs, but they did find a police impostor at a border checkpoint.

Border Patrol says 33-year-old Shawn Harris pulled up to the Alamogordo, N.M. checkpoint claiming he was a reserve officer with mounted patrol. Harris said he was there to conduct a drug investigation with the Otero County narcotics unit.

Harris was driving a Lincoln Crown Victoria outfitted with police equipment and a license plate with a badge and the initials N.M.M.P.

Harris was wearing military style fatigues, carrying a gun, and had a t-shirt with a gold badge printed on it.

Real narcotics officers there quickly pointed him out as an impostor.

Harris is facing misdemeanor charges of falsely representing himself as a police officer.
