Police in northwestern New Mexico are receiving life-saving equipment thanks to a local business.

The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation awarded Bloomfield Police more than $24,000.

The money will go towards 23 sets of “Safariland” bulletproof vests, which are some of the lightest on the market.

The department says they were desperately needed because violent crime is on the rise in Bloomfield, and their current vests are too bulky.
