Bleak forecast for Rio Grande stream flow

News

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A newly released forecast for the Rio Grande River is bleak.

The Natural Resources Conservation Service predicts flows near Pojoaque are at 24 percent of average based on existing snowpack in the basin.

The forecast is the lowest its been in a decade, including extremely dry years like 2013.

The agency says it appears 2018 will be like the lean years of 2011-2016 where the Rio Grande flows were less than half of average.
