BioPark welcomes new ‘Guam Kingfisher Chick’

News

A new face at the zoo is not just adorable, but also a critical addition for a species that’s extinct in the wild.

In June, the zoo welcomed a Guam Kingfisher Chick named “Eowyn” after the “Lord of the Rings” character.

The species was wiped out after an Australian snake was inadvertently introduced into its habitat in Guam following WWII.

The BioPark hopes Eowyn will start laying eggs and help bolster her species’ gene pool.
