Bill would increase college scholarship benefits for kids of police, firefighters killed in line-of-duty

SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – A bill that would increase college scholarship benefits for children of police officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty is moving through the Roundhouse.

The bill that has already passed the House Education Committee would expand the scholarship from five to six years, add room and board and book costs, and also make students who attend out-of-state institutions eligible.

Among those pushing the bill is the daughter of Sandoval County Sergeant Joe Harris killed in the line of duty in 2009.

She is currently attending college in Colorado.
