ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Lots of people in Albuquerque are happy the “Breaking Bad” spin-off, “Better Call Saul,” is filming here but what do the actors think about it?

Bob Odenkirk, Michael McKean and Jonathan Banks have been in Albuquerque filming AMC’s “Better Call Saul.”

The Duke City is the topic of conversation in a video posted this week from an interview in for 92nd Street Y, a nonprofit in New York.

“Lucky we were in Albuquerque,” Odenkirk said. “I’ve grown to love Albuquerque but um…”

The audience burst out in laughter.

“I do love Albuquerque,” Odenkirk insists.

Banks responded sarcastically, “Yeah, yeah. I love Albuquerque too.”

Banks then asked what Odenkirk likes about it.

“The Bosque trail, the bike paths,” Odenkirk said while another actor mumbles about a graveyard. “It’s mellow. The sky, which you can see. You guys ought to see the sky some time. You’d be surprised.” “We’ve got tire stores, Walmarts, Costcos as far as you can see,” Banks said.

“Scorpions, tarantulas-what do you like?” McKean said.

“Guys,” Odenkirk said as the audience laughed. “We have to go back there.”

Odenkirk insisted he was not kidding about the amazing New Mexico sky.

Then said, “I was able to work, concentrate on my work. There was nothing going on there… for me.”

He tried to quiet the laughing audience, “Shut up. Shut up!”

Now, people in Albuquerque are talking.

“I feel like he was making fun of Albuquerque in a way,” said Malcolm Williams.

“I kind of agree with him. It’s hard to find things to do here sometimes, so I thought it was kind of funny,” said Heather Fisk.

“If they’re going to film here and use the land and then joke about it later, then don’t film here. Don’t use the land,” said Tamara Chavez.
